William O. Barlow, 49, Carthage

CARTHAGE, NY — William Oliver Barlow, 49, known to most as Billy Barlow, passed away Sept. 9, 2018, at his father’s home.

Billy was born Sept. 17, 1968, in New Brunswick, NJ, the proud parents Oliver (Butch) and Karen (Parker) Barlow.

In high school, Billy was an AMAZING football player that sported #32, as well as an accomplished wrestler. Years later, you would still hear stories of his power and strength when running the ball down the field for the Comets. Most say he was the best that ever took the field. His nephew had BIG shoes to fill and was so proud when he was chosen to wear #32 for the Comets. Billy graduated in 1987 from Carthage Central School.

He was highly recruited by Syracuse University to play football, but his senior year of high school he began his struggle with addiction. The dreams and aspirations he had in life became clouded by the hold this evil had on him. There were years that he was able to think clearly and followed in his father’s footsteps as an amazing mechanic. He owned and operated Blue Diamond Automotive in Carthage for years.

Billy is known for his infectious smile, bear hugs and HUGE Heart. He would be the first to help anyone. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in the garage. His family meant the world to him.  We LOVED him dearly, but the TOUGH love we had to give him over his BATTLE with ADDICTION, ROBBED us of many years of memories. We will forever CHERISH the good, loving memories we have of Billy.

Billy is survived by his father, Butch Barlow; two sisters, Marsha (RJ) Gibbons and LuAnn (Bill) Twombly; a brother, Robert Passage; four children, Megan Witt; Raeleen (Alex) Hall; Joseph Barlow; and William (Little Billy) Barlow; two step-children, Mariah Lazenby and Jake Lazenby; seven grandchildren, Giuliana Witt; Rosalie Witt; Antonio Edmondson; AJ Hall; Adriana Hall; Ethan Brophy; and Evan Brophy; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.

He was predeceased by his Mother, Karen Barlow; maternal grandparents, Lucy and Fred Parker; paternal grandparents, Leon Barlow, and Francis and Leona Pennock.

Calling hours will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.  A memorial service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel at 5:00 p.m.

Arrangements are entrusted to Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc.
