CLAYTON, NY -– Earlier today, the members of the 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run committee donated $102,000.00 to Make-A-Wish Central New York. This donation is reflective of the monies raised during the July 14-16 event, headquartered at the Harbor Hotel.
“The 1000 Island Charity Poker Run has been honored to partner with Make-A-Wish Central New York for the past 6 years. If granting a wish to a young person provides them with the strength to fight and often overcome a critical illness… we’re in 110%,” said Bobby Cantwell, chair of the Poker Run committee. “This record-breaking donation represents the hard work of dozens of volunteers and many local businesses,” he continued. “But most importantly, it reflects the generosity of hundreds of boaters from cross the US and Canada, and the support of numerous area sponsors who helped to facilitate this gift.”
Diane Kuppermann, President & CEO of Make-A-Wish Central New York said, “Every aspect of this event is simply magical. From the boat rides given to our wish kids on Saturday to the support of the Harbor Hotel, area businesses and sponsors, all striving to impact the critically ill kids we serve, we are forever grateful.”
She concluded, “Being on hand at the banquet to hear wish alums Nick and Katie Nortz speak, and to witness Natalie Gondek’s excitement upon seeing her camper wish come true, our 2000th wish granted, was a moment few will ever forget. We are incredibly thankful to the committee and to everyone involved for the impact this gift will have on our mission in the coming year.”
