20-year-old motorcyclist killed after colliding with parked pickup truck in Hounsfield

SACKETS HARBOR, NY  —  The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred in the Town of Hounsfield early this morning.

At approximately 1:35 a.m. on April 18, 2026, a group of motorcyclists was traveling southbound on Jericho Road in the Town of Hounsfield.

Two of the motorcyclists failed to negotiate a curve and exited the roadway on the right shoulder.

One motorcycle, a 2005 Yamaha, operated by Patrick E. McGrew, Jr., age 20, of Watertown, collided with a parked pickup truck in the driveway of 18749 Jericho Road.

A 2007 Yamaha, operated by Cheyenne D. Middlemiss, age 33, of Evans Mills, collided with a mailbox at the same address.

Upon arrival of sheriff’s deputies, other motorcyclists were rendering aid to the victims.

McGrew was transported by Town of Watertown Ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Middlemiss was transported by Guilfoyle Ambulance to Watertown International Airport and then flown by LifeNet to Upstate Medical in Syracuse. He is in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing and further details are not available at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by Sackets Harbor Fire, Northpole Fire, the Town of Hounsfield Highway Department, and the New York State Police.
