3 Watertown police officers promoted

WATERTOWN, NY — The following are recent promotions within the Watertown Police Department:

Sergeant Mark A. Lamica was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and has taken command of the “C” Platoon on the 6 pm to 6 am shift. The promotion was effective August 25, 2019. He was hired by our department on February 24, 2005 and was assigned to the patrol division. He is a former field training officer. On August 5, 2015 he was promoted to Detective and was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division as a general crimes detective, where he served until his promotion to Sergeant on February 10, 2016. He served as a patrol supervisor until he was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division as the Detective Sergeant on February 24, 2019. He served in that position until his promotion to Lieutenant.

Detective Joseph A. Giaquinto was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and is assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division. The promotion was effective October 2. Det. Sgt. Giaquinto was hired as patrol officer on October 1, 2007. He was promoted to detective on August 22, 2016, and assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division as a general crimes detective. He is a police training instructor, crisis negotiator and former field training officer.

Patrol Officer Matthew D. Preedom was promoted to Detective and assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division as a general crimes detective. The promotion was effective October 3. Det. Preedom was hired as patrol officer on September 24, 2010. He is a member of the Special Response Team, police training instructor, defensive tactic instructor and former field training officer.
