Drivers feel pain at the pump as prices jump over the past week
BUFFALO, NY — The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $4.47, up 16 cents from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.18. The New York State average is $4.48, up 9 cents from last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.23.
AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
• Batavia – $4.42 (up 11 cents from last Monday)
• Buffalo – $4.42 (up 10 cents from last Monday)
• Elmira – $4.36 (up 12 cents from last Monday)
• Ithaca – $4.43 (up 11 cents from last Monday)
• Rochester – $4.42 (up 12 cents from last Monday)
• Rome – $4.46 (up 11 cents from last Monday)
• Syracuse – $4.39 (up 13 cents from last Monday)
• Watertown – $4.55 (up 13 cents from last Monday)
Pain at the pump continues as pump prices increase. The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is up 16 cents from last week and up 32 cents over the past two weeks. Crude oil remains high, averaging $100 per barrel amid continued volatility in the Strait of Hormuz. Gas prices have returned to spring levels with the national average inching closer to this year’s record high of $4.56 set on May 21. The all-time high for the national average is $5.01 set on June 14, 2022.
According to latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand is up while total domestic gasoline supplies and production are also on the rise. AAA’s Your Driving Costs report show how much gas prices are contributing to the overall cost of driving.
National average diesel prices are setting a new record high today. The national average is $6.51 per gallon, up 28 cents from last week. At this time last year, the national average for diesel was $3.69 per gallon. New York’s average diesel price is $6.49 per gallon, up 32 cents from last week and inching closer to New York’s record diesel prices of $6.54 set on
May 19, 2022. One year ago, the New York average for diesel was $3.91.
When it comes to EV charging, the national average for L2 commercial electricity remains steady. Today’s national average per kilowatt-hour of electricity at a public EV charging station is 42 cents. New York’s rate is 40 cents. The state is home to 18,454 chargers. An estimated 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric

To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage, while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car, since it takes more fuel to
