Bessie R. Trembley, 91, Carthage

CARTHAGE, NY – Bessie R. Trembley, 91, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 18, 2018, at the Rochester General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born Jan. 21, 1927, in Philadelphia, NY, the daughter of late Ernest and Rose Love Cook, she graduated in 1945 from Carthage High School.

She married Norman L. Trembley on Dec. 12, 1948, at the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage with Rev. Kiley officiating. Norman died Jan. 9, 1986.

Bessie is survived by a sister, Ruth Ventiquattro, Sherrill; seven children: Ann VanDeWalker, Charlottesville, Virginia;  Norman Trembley Jr. and his wife Diane, Hamlin, New York; Marcia Keller, Ontario, New York; Daniel F. Trembley, Carthage; Susan and her husband Nicholas Mills, San Antonio, Texas; Alan J. Trembley, Watertown; and, Julie and her husband David Jackson, Carthage; 10 grandchildren with whom she bonded so lovingly: Jessica Sasse, Tami Hale, Connie Rendace, Nathan Trembley, Karly Burchill, Lisa Trembley, Gloria Hensley, Lauren Keller, David Bogart III, Danielle Mills; 11 great-grandchildren, six great- great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and, great-nephews, sisters-in-law Delores Cook and Ruth Sweeney.

She was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Rose, her husband Norman, brothers Raymond, Clair, Walter, Richard and Leroy Cook; sisters Hattie Stephenson, Dora Pierce, Janice Cook, and Barbara Ventiquattro; son-in-laws Robert VanDeWalker and Scott Keller.

Bessie retired from Carthage Central School after dedicating more than 20 years working in the school food services department. Throughout her life, Bessie always enjoyed spectatorship at her children’s and grandchildren’s sport, music, and many other extracurricular activities.

She participated in bowling leagues as well as taking part in many senior citizens activities and events, fundraisers, casinos, concerts, and, sightseeing trips.

Puzzles, card games, and board games of all sorts filled many nights, school vacations, and weekends with the family for years on end.

She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church.

Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 500 State St. in Carthage.  A funeral Mass will be said 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at the St. James Catholic Church, 327 West St., Carthage. Burial will be held in the spring in the St. James Catholic Cemetery, Carthage.
