Betty Weston Robbins, formerly of Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Betty Weston Robbins, lifetime resident of the Watertown area, passed away the 2nd of August 2018 at Cayuga Ridge Extended Care Nursing Home in Ithaca, New York.

Born in 1922 in Watertown, NY. Graduated from Watertown High School. She was married to Jack Robbins for 48 years. She raised three children and helped with the family business.

Lifetime member of Emmanuel Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir for 66 years. She was a soloist, was in the Bill Van Duo and Trio, and performed at the World’s Fair in NYC.

She loved dancing, socializing, and playing cards. She was an accomplished seamstress and porcelain artist, painting and teaching for 35 years. Her hands were never idle as she worked on crocheting, knitting (won prizes at the state fair), and counted cross stitch. After she became legally blind, she knitted baby hats and blankets for the newborns at the hospital.

She had a good sense of humor, told good stories; and her mind was sharp until about three weeks before she passed.

She was survived by her three children, Jan (wife Gail), Cynthia Britton, and Betty Douglass (husband Lloyd); six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Memorial gifts may be made to Emmanuel Congregational Church, 119 South Hamilton St, Watertown, NY.

As per her wishes, her body was given to the Upstate Medical University for the students to study.  A Celebration of Life will be held at Emmanuel Congregational Church on September 15 at 3:00 p.m. with a reception right after.  The Celebration of Life will continue at the American Legion in Sackets Harbor at 5:30.
