Black River man accused of using electronic device before crashing into utility pole

BLACK RIVER, NY — The Black River / Evans Mills Police Department, state police, Black River Ambulance and Black River Fire Department were dispatched at 3:53 p.m. Monday, June 4, to a personal-injury accident on N. Main Street near Pine Street in Black River. “Upon arrival of first responders, a 2013 Toyota van had crashed into a National Grid utility pole causing extensive damage to the van. Investigation showed Joseph Slabchuck, 18, Pine Drive, Black River, has been using an electronic device causing the driver to veer off the road and into the utility pole. National Grid responded to repair the pole. The driver was not injured. Mr. Slabchuck was cited with operating a vehicle while using an electronic device. He is summoned to appear June 18 in LeRay Town Court,” police said.
