Carthage Savings and Loan gift supports YMCA Community and Aquatic Center in downtown Watertown and Carthage YMCA façade project

WATERTOWN, NY –  On December 9th, Carthage Savings & Loan presented the Watertown Family YMCA with a $100,000 check in front of the Carthage YMCA. The funds will support the Transforming Community Campaign for the New YMCA Community and Aquatics Center in Downtown Watertown and capital improvements at the Main Street Carthage YMCA location.

The Capital Campaign for the $27 Million Community and Aquatics Center under construction in Downtown Watertown continues with strong community support from organizations like Carthage Savings and Loan. The Bank’s Watertown Branch is co-located directly below the new YMCA facility. “The YMCA is a vital community partner that provides tremendous added value to our community. Carthage Savings is proud to be a financial supporter of this project and all the Y does in support of their mission” stated Thomas Piche, President of Carthage Savings and Loan.

The Watertown Family YMCA and Carthage Savings both have a long history of serving the North Country with the YMCA founded in 1844 and currently serving the North Country with 3 branches, and Carthage Savings founded in 1888 and currently serving the North Country with 4 branches. “It is the generosity of local businesses and people, like Carthage Savings, that makes the North Country special” stated Denise Young, CEO of the Watertown Family YMCA. “Gifts like this make it possible for the Y to continue moving forward with projects that transform our downtowns and strengthen our communities” continued Young.

The Watertown Family YMCA held the official groundbreaking for the new Y this summer in Downtown Watertown and construction is underway.
