Charles T. Burlingame, 80, Clayton

CLAYTON, NY — Charles T. “Chuck” Burlingame, 80, Clayton, passed away Monday, April 8, 2019, at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, NY.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1,  in Clayton Cemetery with military honors. There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton.    

Born April 27, 1938, in Hornell, NY, a son of William M. and Rena H. Talbot Burlingame, he graduated in 1956 from Hornell High School and received his BS from Cornell University.

On Sept. 10, 1960, he married Leona A. “Lee” White and were married 46 years when she passed on June 13, 2007.

He was a member of the United States Coast Guard, entering on Feb, 12, 1961, serving over 30 years and was placed on the retired reserve list on April 27, 1998, in the rank of Commander/0-5.

He was Plant Manager for Blue Seal Feeds, first in Arcade and then in Watertown for a total of 28 years, serving Watertown for 13.

Chuck enjoyed his life on the river which included boating, hunting, woodworking, and especially spending time with his daughter and grandchildren. Chuck was a longtime supporter of and volunteer at the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton,NY. He served in a wide variety of roles, primarily as a fully credentialed captain aboard the museum’s in-water fleet.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherri L. Burlingame-Kall, Liverpool, NY, two grandchildren; Katie L. Kozak and her husband Scott, Painted Post, NY and Carrie C. Kall, Liverpool, NY, and sister, Eileen Burlingame-Sengstock, Apollo Beach, FL.

Along with his wife, he was predeceased by a niece, Christine Sengstock Kazor.
