Chaumont man accused of forcibly stealing woman’s purse at hotel

WATERTOWN, NYBrandon T. Thompson, 32, of 11385 Circle Drive, Chaumont, was charged by Watertown police at 8:13 a.m. Monday, July 27, in the 200 block of Sterling with third-degree robbery, a felony, after a foot chase.

Mr. Thompson is accused of forcibly stealing a purse belonging to Megan Clement when he took it off a bed she was sitting on and struggled with her when she grabbed the purse to keep him from taking it at about 10:48 p.m. July 22 at Best Western, 300 Washington St., room 115, according to court documents.

The foot chase began in the 300 block of Academy Street and ended in a driveway at 228 Sterling St. Guilfyole Ambulance and city firefighters were dispatched to the scene to treat a man who had been tased.

Thompson was held for arraignment in City Court.
