City of Watertown to begin bi-weekly collection of brush and green waste

WATERTOWN, NY —  The City of Watertown Department of Public Works will begin its seasonal, bi-weekly collection of brush and green waste from city residential homes the week of March 30.

Collection of brush and green waste will coincide with the recycling schedule for your street.

A collection schedule by street can be found at: www.watertown-ny.gov.

In addition, the Department has begun street sweeping operations to remove the winter accumulation from our roadways.

These tasks are accomplished with single person crews which allows social distancing to be maintained.

ï‚· Brush & Green Waste can be placed in the median between the sidewalk and curb, or at the back of the sidewalk. Please do not block sidewalks or place debris in the roadway.

ï‚· Please have Brush & Green Waste placed out by 7:00 am the day of collection following the guidelines below.

Collection Guidelines for Brush: Tree limbs, sticks & vines…

ï‚· Tree limbs & branches cannot exceed 4 inches in diameter and 5 feet in length to facilitate loading into our vehicles.

ï‚· Brush should be placed in bundles less than 18 inches in diameter (about an armful) and no longer than 5 feet in length.

ï‚· Smaller twigs and branches can also be placed in standard 32 gallon trash cans, preferably with handles and weighing less than 40 lbs.

Collection Guidelines for Yard Waste: Grass clippings, leaves, weeds & yard plants…

ï‚· Yard Waste must be placed in PAPER bags or re-useable, hard sided containers not exceeding 40lbs which will facilitate manual loading into our collection vehicles.

ï‚· Yard Waste in plastic bags will no longer be collected.

ï‚· Paper lawn bags and re-useable containers are available at most local vendors.

ï‚· There is no limit to the number of bags/containers that you can put curbside.

Street Sweeping

ï‚· We are requesting motorists exercise caution by reducing speed and maintaining a safe distance when encountering the street sweeping equipment.

ï‚· Please do not rake or place any yard debris in the roadway.
