Clayton man arrested for aggravated DWI following a vehicle pursuit on Route 12 in the town of Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA BAY, NY — On Sept. 24, 2018, at approximately 1:10 a.m., state police observed a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling westbound on State Route 12 in the town of Alexandria at a high rate of speed and without headlights.

Troopers attempted to pull the vehicle over, however the driver refused to stop and continued westbound for several more miles before pulling over.

The driver, Mark A. Stephenson, 33, Clayton, NY, was subsequently arrested for the following:

  • Aggravated DWI, class “E” felony (previous conviction with 10 yrs.)

  • Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, a class “A” misdemeanor

  • Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree, a class “A” misdemeanor

A blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law. Aggravated DWI, which carries harsher penalties upon conviction, is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or greater. Troopers did not provide his BAC.

Stephenson was arraigned in the town of Alexandria Court and remanded to the Jefferson County Jail.
