Copenhagen Central announces Class of 2021 leaders

COPENHAGEN, NY —  Copenhagen Central has announced their Class of 2020 leaders.

Peyton Nicole Walker, daughter of Michele Macaluso and Lyle Walker, is the Class of 2021 Academic Valedictorian, with a 96.5% GPA. She is a member of the George S. O’Brien National Honor Society. Peyton was Class Vice President (10) and Class Treasurer (9). Peyton has been a representative for Lewis County Youth Bureau (10, 11, 12). Peyton is a member of the Students Against Destructive Decisions (9, 10, 11, 12). She is a peer leader for the Sources of Strength Club (9, 10, 11, 12). Peyton was a member of the Prom Committee (11). She was a member of the Common Grounds Volunteer Club (9,10). Peyton was a member of the Varsity Tennis team (9, 10, 11, 12). Peyton participated in school musicals throughout high school (9, 10, 11, 12). She is a member of the School Drill Team (9, 10) and currently serves as team captain (12). She performed a NYSSMA Solo (9).

In addition to school athletics and clubs, Peyton participated in the Zombie Run: Awareness for Opioid Abuse (11) and the Lewis County Night Out (11). She volunteered at the Thompson Park Zoo during the summer (11). Peyton has also assisted with the Elementary School Play at Copenhagen Central School (9, 10,11). She volunteered for Meals on Wheels at Samaritan Medical Center (9,10,11) and cleaned apartments for homeless persons (10). Peyton took pictures at Evening with Santa at Copenhagen Central School (9, 10, 11). She has volunteered at Jefferson County SPCA (10) and at Stone Soup for Grace Episcopal Church in Copenhagen (9,10).

Peyton attained High Honor Roll status all four years of high school. She received the Elmira College Key Award ($20,000 annually), Lemoyne College Heights Award ($14,750 annually), Keuka College Ball Community Achievement Award ($10,000 annually), and Positive Attitude Award. She earned the highest average in English, Algebra I, Spanish 2 and 3, Global History I and II, Career Financial Management, Genocide Studies and U.S. History. She also received Most Prepared and Dedicated award in Chorus.

In the fall, Peyton will be continuing her education at Utica College, majoring in Animal Behavior.

 

Ariana Nicole Rivera-Corona, daughter of Shayra Corona Nieves, is the Class of 2021 Academic Salutatorian, with a 95.9% GPA. She is a member of the George S. O’Brien National Honor Society (11,12). Ariana is a four-year member of the Varsity Cheerleading team, where they were Section III Class D Champions (9, 11). She was named a Frontier League Division D All-Star (10, 11), Section II All -Star (10, 11). The team became Frontier League Class D Varsity Cheer Champions (10, 11) and Section III co-ed Champions (10). Ariana served as a Co-Captain for this winning Cheer Team (11, 12). Ariana was a member of the Varsity Tennis team (12), Varsity Soccer team (9, 10) and Modified Softball team (9). Ariana has served as Vice President of her Class of 2021 (11, 12), Treasurer (10) and Secretary (9). She has been a member of the Youth Advisory Council (11) and is currently the
President (12). She is a member of the Students Against Destructive Decisions Club (9, 10, 11, 12) for which she has also been the treasurer. She is also a member of the Spanish Club for (9, 10 11, 12). She has been a peer leader for the Sources of Strength Club throughout high school, and is currently Co- President (12).

In addition to school clubs and athletics, Ariana volunteers her time to tutor students in Spanish and math. She volunteered as a 4-H Afterschool Program Teacher Aid (11) and was a photographer for “Night with Santa” (10, 11). Ariana volunteered in the Pajama Program (10, 11) and as a Copenhagen Elementary School Teacher Aid (9 ,10). Ariana was a photographer for PETCO Fundraiser for SPCA (10). She also volunteered with a Zoo Teens Internship Program during the
summer.

Ariana has earned various awards throughout high school, including high honor roll status. She received the highest average award in Earth Science, Algebra II, Spanish 4, and AP U.S. History. Ariana earned the Student Sage Award Scholarship $10,000 annually, Summer Exchange Program International Student Scholarship, St. Lawrence Augsbury North Country Scholarship ($27,000 annually), Silver Key Scholastic Award, and President’s Education Award.

Ariana plans to attend Cornell University, majoring in Animal Science.

 

Anna Raelyn Spaulding, daughter of Mark and Jennifer Spaulding, is the Class of 2021 Vocational Leader,with a 95.6% GPA. Anna has been attending the Cosmetology program at the Howard G. Sackett Technical Center in Glenfield. Anna is a four-year member of the Varsity Cheerleading team, where she was Co-Captain throughout high school. Anna is also a NYPHSAA Scholar-Athlete in both
Varsity Cheerleading (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) and Varsity Tennis (7, 8 , 9, 10, 11, 12). She was also named a Frontier League All-Star for Tennis (9, 11). Anna has been an active member on the Youth Advisory Council (9, 10, 11) and served as vice president her senior year. Anna has also been NYS Governor’s Youth Council Representative (11, 12). Anna is Class President (11, 12). She is the president of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) (11). Anna is a member of the National Honor Society and the Yearbook Committee. Anna is also a Safe Schools Endeavor Representative (11, 12).

Anna participates in the Pajama Program where they have collected and distributed over 1000 pairs of pajamas and over 1300 reading books. She has also done over 4500+ hours of community service during high school.

In addition to such involvement in activities and community service, Anna has earned many awards. Anna received the NYS Senate Youth Leadership Award. She also received the St. Lawrence Augsbury North Country Scholarship ($27,000 annually), Elmira Key College Award ($20,000 annually), Rensselaer Medal Program Award ($25,000 annually). She also received a Good Citizen Award. Anna earned the highest average in Chemistry, AP US History, English 11, Algebra II, Biology and Geometry. Anna was also Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen Scholastic Winner 2019. She was Miss Pride of New York’s Outstanding Teen in 2020. She received the Prudential Spirit of Community Award (10, 11). Anna also received the President’s Volunteer Service Award Gold Level (10, 11).

Anna has received the University of Rochester Young Leaders Award (11) and has been on the high honor roll throughout high school and BOCES Cosmetology Program.

In the fall, Anna will be continuing her education at the University of Toledo, majoring in Pre-Professional Division College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science with concentration in Cosmetic Formulation and Design.
