Copenhagen woman charged with DWI after vehicle gets stuck in ditch, deputies say

COPENHAGEN, NY —  Melissa L. Coss, 50, of 9991 State Route 12, Copenhagen, was charged by Lewis County sheriff’s deputies at 6:46 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, on County Route 194 in the town of Denmark with driving while intoxicated, unsafe backing and failure to change her address on a driver’s license and registration.

Deputies found Coss’s vehicle unoccupied and partially in a ditch at the intersection of Hayes Road and County Route 194.

“Coss was then located at a nearby residence and through investigation it was determined that she was intoxicated when she backed her vehicle into the ditch while attempting to turn her vehicle around,” deputies said.

A blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law. Deputies did not provide her BAC.

Ms. Coss is summoned to appear in Demark Town Court at a late date.
