David E. Hodge, 89, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — David E. Hodge, 89, passed away at Hospice of Jefferson County Saturday, May 4, 2019, with his family by his side.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown. Burial will be held at the convenience of his family. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the funeral home.

Born Nov. 14, 1929, in Tylerville, NY, he graduated from Copenhagen High School with the class of 1949.

He married Mary Beth Cowles on May 25, 1952, at Copenhagen Methodist Church with the late pastor Carl Jacobs officiating.

He and his family owned and operated a farm on Churchill Rd. in Tylerville for 70 years before retirement.

David was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 68 years. He served as director for Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Rutland Hills Producers, and Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District. He also was a member of the Rutland Congregational Church (serving as trustee), the Copenhagen School Board, and the Copenhagen Senior Citizen and Rutland Club ’47.

David enjoyed traveling, bowling, 4-wheeling, and spending time with his family.

Surviving besides his wife, Mary, are their children: Sharon and Steven Corbett of Copenhagen, Susan Allen of Copenhagen; their grandchildren: Lindsey Whitmore, Derek Corbett; and a sister, Donna Wheeler of Copenhagen. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
