MORRISTOWN, NY — Dean E. Walts, Sr., 80, passed away Wednesday morning, June 26, 2019, after a courageous 23-year battle with Parkinson’s, at Riverledge Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Ogdensburg, NY, while under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, with his loving family by his side.
Born Nov. 21, 1938, in Evans Mills, NY, he was the son of Everett L. and Rosetta L. Shorkey Walts, he was a 1956 graduate of Evans Mills High School and a 1962 graduate of Oswego State University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts.
Dean married Suzanne R. Calhoun of Theresa, NY, on July 4, 1959, in Gouverneur, NY. This coming July 4th would have been their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
In 1962 he started teaching at Lansing High School, Lansing, NY and in 1964 he began teaching Industrial Arts at Canton High School, Canton, NY, for 18 years. He was also owner and operator of Laurentian Pool Sales, State Street, Canton, NY, installing and maintaining pools, since the 1970s, into the early 1990s.
Dean was a member of the Benz Pond Hunting Club and the Azure Mountain Hunting Club.
He enjoyed boating, hunting, woodworking, puttering around and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Suzanne; three children, a daughter, Wendy
Falvey and companion, Dean Swift, Canton, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and David Elliott, Canton, NY; a son, Nicholas Walts and companion, Ammie Bird,
Greenland, NH; 5 grandchildren, Chris Falvey, Allison, Morgan and Maggie Elliott and Emiley Walts; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Carolyn O’Neill, Clayton, NY and Rita and Gregg Grant, Theresa, NY; nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents, a son, Dean E. Walts, Jr., a brother-in-law, Alfred O’Neill and a niece,
Chandra Grant, all passed away previously.
There will be no funeral or calling hours. Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY.
