Deputies: Indian River school bus monitor facing charges after incident with three students

WATERTOWN, NY —  On Nov. 29, 2022, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of an incident that occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. that same day on a First Student school bus affiliated with the Indian River School District.

JCSO school resource officers reviewed bus and cell phone videos and obtained numerous written statements.

The investigation confirmed allegations of a physical altercation having taken place between a First Student bus monitor and three Indian River students.

On Dec. 2, 2022, JCSO school resource officers arrested bus monitor Daniel M. Trahan, 63, Watertown.

Trahan was charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, three counts of second-degree harassment and one count of second-degree unlawful imprisonment.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by New York State Police and the Indian River Central School District administration.
