Deputies: Alexandria Bay man killed in I-81 rollover accident

WATERTOWN— Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fatal one-vehicle accident early Saturday involving a pickup truck off the right shoulder of the southbound lane of Interstate 81 just north of the Bradley Street exit in the town of Pamelia.

Deputies said a southbound 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck exited the right shoulder of the southbound lane for an unknown reason, struck a culvert and became airborne. The vehicle then rolled multiples times and ejected the operator during this process. The truck eventually came to rest on its right side. A passerby reported the incident to Jefferson County 911 at 1:01 a.m.

The sole occupant/driver was identified as Robert Troy Harter, 50, of Alexandria Bay, deputies said.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by state police, the Glen Park Volunteer Fire Department, Crossman’s Towing, Guilfoyle Ambulance and Cleveland Funeral Home, Inc.

The investigation is continuing, deputies said.
