WATERTOWN, NY – The Diabetes Coalition of Jefferson County is excited to bring to the community an evening of education on the prevention and
treatment of diabetes. On Tuesday, November 12, 5:30-7:30pm at Samaritan Summit Village there will be expert speakers and representatives from local organizations discussing diabetes prevention and management. This will be a great educational opportunity for spouses and other family members, as well.
This event is a true example of Jefferson County health care providers and organizations coming together to provide a benefit to the community. The coalition promotes services and diabetes programs to the public and providers, as well as, develops appropriate interventions to improve overall diabetes care in Jefferson County.
The event is free to attend. At 5:45pm Dr. Claudia Fish, Endocrinologist at Samaritan Medical Center, will present “A Review of Diabetes,” followed by Teresa Intorcia, Certified Diabetes Educator at Samaritan Medical Center, presenting “Self-Management of Your Diabetes 101.” Attendees can listen to the speakers and visit each organization to learn more about the services and programs they offer. There will be information for those with Type 2, Type 1 and Gestational Diabetes, along with ways to prevent diabetes and lead a healthier lifestyle.
The event will also have free healthy snacks and refreshments thanks to Samaritan Medical Center. Vendors scheduled to be at the event are: Kinney Drugs, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County, Samaritan Medical Center, Carthage Area Hospital, Jefferson County Public Health Service, North Country Prenatal Perinatal Council, the Watertown YMCA, NovoNordisk, Watertown Lions Club, Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired of NNY, Jefferson County Office for the Aging and Fidelis Care.
