Donald C. Wetherwax, 75, Antwerp

ANTWERP, NY — Donald C. Wetherwax, 75, of 36281 S. Main St., Antwerp, passed away April 26, 2019, following a brief illness at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.

Born Oct. 13, 1943, in Watertown, NY, the son of Earl and Helen (Gowing) Wetherwax, he graduated from Indian River High School. 

Following school he entered the US Air Force and was honorably discharged after serving eight years.

Don worked for the roofers union out of Syracuse and for Farley Roofing in Gouverneur for several years.

He enjoyed fixing lawnmowers and doing various repairs around his home and for friends and family. He was an avid NASCAR and Bruce Springsteen fan, enjoyed watching Swamp Loggers and mud bogging on tv. He and his wife used to mud bog years ago and had belonged to Team Xtreme Off-road Club. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. 

He married Linda L. Ashley on March 1, 1975. Linda retired from Fort Drum where she was a cook for many years.  She passed away Jan. 31, 2019.

Among his survivors are his three children, Earl K. Wetherwax and his companion Ava Riley, Black River, Todd P. and Jodi Wetherwax, Philadelphia, Bobbi Jo Wetherwax and David Prashaw, Antwerp; six grandchildren, Derek, Brianna, Jeffrey, Kailee, Blake, and Jackie; two great grandchildren, Katelynn and Tanner; two brothers and their wives, William and Carol Wetherwax, Livonia, NY, Robert and Merle Wetherwax, Rodman, several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and his beloved wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard Wetherwax.

Calling hours will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the Bruce Funeral Home, 131 Maple St., Black River. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial for both Don and Linda will be held at 1 p.m. May 10 in Evans Mills Cemetery.
