Doris E. Wilcox, 98, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY – Doris E. Wilcox, 98, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at Samaritan Summit Village.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Cleveland Funeral Home, Watertown, NY.

Born Nov. 10, 1919, in Theresa, a daughter of Carl and Inez Shields-Snyder, she graduated from Brownville High School in 1934.

After school, Doris worked as an office clerk at Woolworth for 10 years, JC Penny’s for 15 years, and Empsall Dept. Store for 11 years. Doris has been residing in Watertown, NY for most of her life.

She married Everett Wilcox on Aug. 6, 1939. They shared almost fifty loving years of marriage together until his passing on May 11, 1989.

Doris was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church, where at one point she was a deacon. She was an avid bowler up until 1980. She inducted into the local Bowlers Hall of Fame. She was a member of North Side Improvement and the Legion Auxiliary.

Doris is survived by her children, Terry Wilcox, Clayton, NY, and Patricia Ann Counoupas (Steve), Rochester, NY; a grandson, James and Anne Counoupas; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Alex, and Daniel; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, Doris was predeceased by her brothers: Carlton, Gerald, and Robert Snyder; her sister, Mary Brown; a granddaughter, Irene Counoupas, and a daughter-in-law, Bronwyn Wilcox.

Calling hours will be held 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Cleveland Funeral Home, 404 Sherman St., Watertown, with a memorial service following. Burial will be private.
