Drug Task Force makes mobile meth lab bust in town of Brownville

WATERTOWN, NY — On 10/18/19, at about 2:25 pm, members of the Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force orchestrated a vehicle stop in the Town of Brownville with the assistance of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Multiple persons occupied the suspect vehicle, a 2011 Nissan Versa, at the time of the stop. The vehicle stop was a result of an active drug/wanted person
investigation.

A search warrant was obtained and executed on the vehicle and occupants.

As a result, materials and components used in the manufacture of methamphetamine were seized, police said.

A backpack located inside the vehicle contained approximately 3.5 ounces of a liquid that contained methamphetamine, police said.

At the conclusion of the search warrant Everett W. Benway (age 47) was charged with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance  (class A-II felony) and one count of third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine class D felony).

Mr. Benway was arraigned in the City of Watertown court by the Honorable Judge Renzi and was held without bail.

The Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force was assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Watertown Police Department, and NYSP CNET and CCSERT units. This investigation continues.
