Elsie Smith, 80, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Elsie Smith, 80, of 950 W. Main St., Watertown, passed away May 24, 2019, at her home where she was surrounded by her loving family.

Calling hours will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was born on Jan. 9, 1939, in Fairbanks, Alaska, daughter of John and Julia (Albert) Silas.

She met Terrance Smith while he was stationed in Alaska with the U.S. Air Force. The couple married on Nov. 1, 1958. They traveled throughout the US while he continued to serve in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge the couple moved to Watertown.

Elsie was a homemaker and raised six loving children and enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren. She enjoyed Bingo, going to the casino, the Brownville American Legion every Friday night and spending time with family.

Mr. Smith joined the City of Watertown Fire Department in June 1966 and he retired in June of 1986. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Watertown Fire Department where he was former Assistant Fire Chief. He died on Oct. 5, 2012.

Among her survivors are four daughters and three sons in law, Julia A. and Jeffrey M. Barcomb Sr., Central Square, Darleen L. and Gary W. LaRose, Watertown, Kelly R. and Frank G. Smith, Willard, NY, Dawn M. Smith~Sweet, Watertown; two sons and daughter in law, Terrance J. Smith Jr. Watertown and John J. and Amy L. Smith, Brownville; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and her beloved husband, she is predeceased by 15 siblings.
