Evelyn W. Gleason, 89, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Evelyn W. Gleason, 89, Watertown, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019, at Hospice of Jefferson County where she had been a resident since October.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Emmanuel-Episcopal Church, Adams. Spring burial will be held at the convenience of her family in Zion Episcopal Cemetery, Pierrepont Manor. A calling hour will precede the funeral at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Born August 27, 1929, in Belleville, a daughter to Philip and Edna (Gale) Wheadon, she graduated high school from Union Academy of Belleville, and later Watertown School of Commerce.

Evelyn worked as a secretary at H.D. Goodale for 35 years, and Agricultural Insurance Company for 25 years.

Evelyn enjoyed knitting. She was a member of Adam’s Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Superintendent of Jefferson County Fair’s Crafts & Food’s Department, life member of Champion Grange, and recording secretary at Watertown’s SCORE Chapter where she never missed a monthly meeting in 28 years. She was also a member of Jefferson Ponea Grange, New York State National Grange, and volunteer at Watertown Urban Mission.

She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Gleason of Watertown; a close friend whom she considered a daughter, Christina Tundo of Watertown; a sister, Joyce Ford, North Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews.
