Farm Credit East donates to local backpack programs

BURRVILLE, NY —  Farm Credit East’s Burrville office recently donated to five local backpack programs to help families in need in the community. Each backpack program – South Jefferson, Sackets Harbor, Alexandria Bay, Sandy Creek and Lowville – received a $1,000 donation to support their efforts.

On average, every dollar donated to a backpack program provides one pound of food to a family in need and helps provide them certainty for their next meal. “The backpack program is an important local program that provides those in need with access to food while also developing the community, and we’re pleased to be able to support it,” said Wesley Kujawa, mortgage specialist with Country Living from Farm Credit East.

Backpack programs work to provide students and their families who may be food insecure with a backpack full of food at least once a week. Most programs rely completely on donations for funding.

With support from Farm Credit East’s Burrville office, the backpack programs will be able to provide 5,000 pounds of food to families in and around the Burrville area.
