Other Details: At approximately 10:39 p.m., the Lowville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire. The homeowners were awoken by their smoke detectors and found the fire in the living room area and were able to escape the building unharmed. Fire units arrived to a fully involved 2 story log cabin style residence. Lowville command confirmed with residents that no one was inside the structure. There was a live power line down across the front yard which hindered operations due to it being unsafe to go near. National grid was expedited to the scene and removed the wire so fire units could operate safely in the front of the structure. Fire operations were set in defensive mode (no interior operations) due to the extent of the fire and the instability of the structure. Due to the wire and inability to access the front of the structure, fire units worked from the rear of the structure forward until the wire could be safely removed. The second floor had already collapsed onto the first floor before fire department arrival. Mutual aid was requested from New Bremen and Croghan Fire Departments. The Town of Watson was requested to bring their gradall to the scene. Flames were brought under control about an hour after arriving on scene and extensive overhaul took place for another 2 hours to ensure all hot spots were out and the fire would not start back up.

Cause: Undetermined after investigation due to destruction, believed to have starting in the living room area of the structure.
