Fort Drum man charged with DWI

CALCIUM, NY  —  Carlos J. McDonald, 21, Fort Drum, was charged by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies at 2:52 a.m. Sunday, May 10, at 25649 Virginia Smith Dr. in the town of LeRay with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

Deputies were dispatched to a report of a vehicle parked on the grass at Quality Inn & Suites, Virginia Smith Dr., Calcium.

A blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law. Aggravated DWI, which carries greater penalties upon conviction, is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or greater. McDonald’s BAC was 0.22 percent, deputies said.

McDonald was released to military custody and summoned to appear in court at a later date.
