Fort Drum officials will hold joint mass casualty exercise August 15-16

FORT DRUM, NY – Fort Drum and 10th Mountain Division (LI) emergency response personnel, along with civilian responders, will participate in a large-scale training exercise on Aug. 15 and 16.

The exercise is designed to test the installation’s coordination capabilities with various North Country emergency, medical and hospital teams.

Responders will be called to the “scene” of a mulit-military vehicle accident with injuries beginning around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Later that day, emergency crews will respond to a report of a “missing” hunter. The two-day scenario is meant to be as stressful to emergency response systems as possible, highlighting both best and worst practices for any emergency event, which is the ultimate goal of the exercise.

Surrounding communities and those motorists traveling in the vicinity of Fort Drum may see an increase in emergency response activity during this time.  There is no cause for alarm.
