Frances N. Janes, 92, Port Leyden

PORT LEYDEN, NY –  Frances Nora “Franny” Janes, 92, formerly of Kelpytown Road, passed away on Thursday evening, Nov. 1, 2018, at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, Lowville.

A funeral Mass will be said 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Port Leyden. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

Franny was born on Feb. 12, 1926 at home in Port Leyden, NY, a daughter of the late Noah and Guadelupe DeLeon Sabourin.  She graduated from Port Leyden High School in 1945.

On Aug. 1, 1945, she married Leonard Janes at St. Martin’s Rectory in Port Leyden.

She worked as a seamstress for Lally Manufacturing, Port Leyden, for 42 years, retiring in 1988.  After her retirement, she cared for children in her home.

She was a communicant of St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Port Leyden.

She enjoyed bowling and bingo, and most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters and three sons-in-law, Rebecca and Dan Mullen of Concord, NH; Susan and Ron Rockwood of Lowville; Henry Wheeler of Port Leyden; nine grandchildren, Melisa Eastman, Jon Wheeler, Shannon Carpenter, Arree O’Neil, Sandy Janes, William Janes, Benjamin Mullen, Hannah Rockwood and Abigail Rockwood; 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; a sister Delia Wood of Concord, NH; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leonard Janes, who died in 1997; two sons, William Janes, who died in 1963, Douglas Janes, who died in 2007; a daughter Judith Wheeler, who died in 2018; two brothers, Noah Sabourin Jr., Cornelius Sabourin; and a sister, Marie Sabourin.
