Frederick J. Ebersol, 94, Croghan

CROGHAN, NY – Frederick J. Ebersol, 94, of George Street, Croghan, passed away late Friday evening, Sept. 27, 2019, at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at the Apostolic Christian Church of America, Lowville, with Ministers of the Church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery.

Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville.

Born Sept. 24, 1925, at home in the Town of Croghan, a son of the late Leon S. and Mable Greenfield Ebersol, he attended country school on the Brewery Hill Road and Beaver Falls High School. Fred worked on the family farm on the Black Creek Road and later on area farms.

A marriage to Patricia Dicob ended in divorce. On Oct. 6, 1973, he married Barbara Ransier at the Lowville United Methodist Church.

Fred worked on the Arthur Stanton farm for 22 years, until May 1987.

Beginning in the spring of 1988, together with his wife, the couple mowed the seven old Town of Lowville cemeteries, and mowed roadsides in the town, until retiring in 1997.

Fred was a member of Apostolic Christian Church of America, Croghan. He mowed the Apostolic Christian Cemetery at the church in Croghan from 1988 until 1997, and the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Naumburg from 1995 until 1997.

He assisted in St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Croghan for five years.

Fred enjoyed making latch hook rugs.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ralph Bush of Lowville; a brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Sandy Ebersol of Castorland; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Charlotte and Donald Hunziker of Glenfield; Lois Baker of Croghan; Sandra Zehr of Carthage; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and two on the way; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fred was predeceased by a daughter, Tina Marie Ebersol, who died in infancy on September 13, 1957; a sister, Fern Reed; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Kayland, Calvin, Gerald and Linda Ebersol; and three brothers-in-law, Walter Baker, Francis Reed, and Edward Zehr.
