Georgiena Veley, 76, Ellisburg

ELLISBURG, NY —  Georgiena (Georgie) Veley, 76, Ellisburg, passed away Saturday morning, April 11, 2020, at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, with her loving family at her side.

The funeral will be private with a Celebration of Life gathering to be held this summer at a date, time and place to be announced.

Arrangements are with the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home Belleville.

Born Feb. 28, 1944, in Depauville to the late Edwin E. and Rose DeMar Ludlow, she graduated in 1961 from Adams High School.

She attended evening courses at Jefferson Community College. She worked at Stone’s Dairy Bar, Agricultural Insurance Company, and the NYS Department of Transportation from 1964 to 1976. She was a recording clerk for Jefferson County Clerk’s Office from 1991 until retiring in 2008.

She married Craig C. Veley of Ellisburg on Jan. 26, 1973, at St. Cecilia’s Church of Adams by Father Norman Poupore.

She is survived by her husband, Craig, daughter Jessica (Andrew) of Memphis, son Jonathan (Sara) and her beloved granddaughters Molly and Mallory of Clifton, VA.  Brothers Gene (Brenda) of Ft. Plain, Alabama and Rodney (Glenda) of Stevenson, Alabama. She was an adoring aunt to many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Charlene Ann and her step-father, Lloyd Overton.

She cherished her time with family and friends at the cottage on Hayes Bay, near Pt. Peninsula. She enjoyed watching the ships, sunsets, and campfires along the lakefront. She found a lot of peace and enjoyment in her daily swims and picking rocks from May until October. She spent her winters in Fort Pierce, Florida, where she continued to cheer on Syracuse University basketball, no matter what the score. She looked forward to impromptu Happy Hours with friends and family at the lake, at home, or in Florida.

She was a board member of the Ellisburg Library and the Ellisburg Cemetery Association and North County Children’s Clinic.

Georgie’s family wishes to thank the 4th floor nurses and staff at Samaritan for their exceptional care, consideration and comfort extended to them during their time at the hospital.
