Hancock Airport provides helpful advice for spring break travelers

SYRACUSE, NY – The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) is providing helpful advice for travelers embarking on spring break travel this week at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR). Most local school districts begin their spring breaks this Friday, March 31st.

Approximately 47,000 travelers will board flights at SYR from Friday, March 31st through Easter Sunday, April 9th. Peak passenger volume is expected Friday, March 31st, Friday, April 7th, and Saturday, April 8th with 5,000 + departing passengers expected each of those days.

“As we see unprecedented growth in our traffic, our team is happily prepared to accommodate families getting away for spring break this year,” said SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri. “More airlines, more nonstop destinations, and increased passenger amenities compared to last spring all add up to what we believe is an enhanced airport customer experience for our travelers.”

Travelers looking for last minute gifts for loved ones, a bite to eat, or a pre-flight beverage will be met with a variety of local, national, and international options. New autonomous vending machines are now operational at the airport, both pre- and post-security checkpoint. From ethically manufactured silver jewelry pieces, to Apple-branded electronics, freshly baked goods, freshly ground and brewed coffee, or health/beauty care products, these new vending machines are available to SYR travelers 24/7. For a full list of amenities at the airport, please visit the airport’s Shopping, Dining, and Services page.

Fliers wishing to park their vehicle at the airport are encouraged to prebook parking on the airport’s website. Those who choose not to prebook, or are unable to prebook parking for their dates, are encouraged to monitor the website for near-real-time drive-up parking availability.

Local Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials advise travelers arrive two hours prior to their scheduled departure. This is especially important during peak checkpoint volume times which generally occur between 4:00 am – 6:00 am, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, and 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
