Harris R. “Skip” Furman, 78, Cape Vincent

CAPE VINCENT, NY — There will be a Celebration of Life for Harris R. “Skip Furman, 78, who died Saturday at his residence, will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Cape Vincent American Legion.

Skip was born Aug. 27, 1940, in Rochester, the son of Harris and Lilian Loughwed Furman Sr. He graduated from Palmyra High School.

His first wife, Maryella, died during childbirth.

On June 6, 1968, he married Mary Ann Jarim in Oswego. Mary Ann died July 12, 2018, in Virginia Beach.

He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on December 14th, 1962.

Skip worked at the local Carpenters Union #278 in Watertown, which is now Local #277 in Syracuse.

He was a member of the Cape Vincent American Legion, the National Rifle Association, and Ducks Unlimited.

Skip was an avid sportsman, and enjoyed Deer, Goose, and Duck hunting, loved fishing, and especially doing woodworking at his home.

Surviving are two sons, Peter (Tara) of Virginia Beach, and William (Bill) of Tampa, Florida; one daughter, Heather Smeatin of Canandaigua; and six grandchildren, April, Ben, Kendyl, Austin, and twins, Connor and Camryn.

One daughter, Annette Furman, died before him.

Donations can be made in his name to the Cape Vincent American Legion.
