WEST CARTHAGE, NY — Harry R. House, 83, West Carthage, died Saturday afternoon, April 6, 2019, at his home where he was under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Born May 13, 1935, in Gouverneur, the son of the late Delmer and Fannie (Lashbrooks) House, he served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957.
He married Marion May Russell on July 1, 1956, in Alexandria Bay. Marion, a former head cashier for P&C Foods, died on Jan. 8, 2011.
He was employed by Climax MFG in West Carthage as stock clerk and retired after 44 years of service.
His memberships include the West Carthage Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion Post # 789, BPOE Lodge # 1762, Missing Link Snowmobile Club and the Hornets Drill Team. Harry enjoyed hunting and old cars, was an avid bowler and cooked for many events of the fire department throughout his 53 year membership.
He is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Nathalie and Chris Waring of Carthage and Sandra and Kim Sheitz of Copenhagen; two sons, William and Tina House of Carthage and Delmar House of West Carthage; eight grandchildren, Danielle Camidge, Randy Vitullo Jr., Jason Vitullo, Heidi Petrie, Bryan Sheitz, Joel, Jared and Jennah House; 31 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Bobbie Jean Vitullo, who died in July of 1989, an infant son, Harry House Jr., and his step mother, Millie House.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 p.m. at the West Carthage Fire Department with Rev. Canon Samuel P. Lundy officiating. A Celebration of his Life will follow the memorial service at the fire hall. Burial with military honors will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.
