Hotis Motel fire cause determined to be electrical in nature

WATERTOWN, NY —  On Thursday, February 10, 2022 at approximately 5:30 am, Jefferson County 911 received calls reporting a structure fire at the Hotis Motel located at 23442 State Route 37 in the Town of Pamelia. The Northpole Fire Department under the direction of Fire Chief Joseph Wargo arrived to find a fully involved structure fire that contained 6 motel rooms. All residents were able to exit the structure without injuries. Additional fire departments responded to assist in extinguishing the fire.

The Jefferson County Origin and Cause Team was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire at the Hotis Motel. The Origin and Cause team was assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the New York State Police. The Red Cross was contacted and assisted the victims of the fire.

After an extensive investigation and examination of the fire debris, the origin has been determined to be electrical in nature.
