Indian River High School announces Class of 2023 academic leaders

PHILADELPHIA, NY —  Indian River High School is proud to announce the academic leaders of the Class of 2023. 

They are: Valedictorian, Kiah Delles, daughter of Michael and Brooke Delles of Philadelphia, New York; Salutatorian, Victoria Huffman, daughter of James and Lydia Huffman of Theresa, New York; and Vocational Leader, Tristan Narrow, daughter of Jeffrey and Trina Narrow of Evans Mills, New York. 

Kiah Delles has been named the 2023 Valedictorian with a cumulative grade point average of 99.35.  Kiah has taken advanced classes throughout her high school career and will graduate with 31 college credits through Syracuse University and Jefferson Community College.  She will graduate with a Regents Diploma, Advanced Designation with Honors and Mastery in Math and Science.  Kiah has maintained honor roll status throughout high school and received several accolades.  She was awarded the Elmira Key Award and the Second Team Soccer All Star last year.  She was named the 7 News Arts All-Star this year.

Kiah is an active member in our school community. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past two years and currently holds the Treasurer title. Kiah has also been active in SADD and is serving as the Senior Class Treasurer.  During her junior year she was a member of the Spanish Club.  Kiah has been active in Basketball, LaCrosse, and Soccer throughout high school.  She was named “Heart of a Champion” for basketball last year and “Heart of a Champion”  for soccer and was captain of the team this year.  Kiah has been a member of the Ski and Snowboard Club for three years.  

Kiah was previously involved in Orchestra and participated in NYSSMA as a freshman.  She is also an active member of her church and community.  She has volunteered her time at her church for numerous events and assists in the nursery.  She participated in the Care Net Charity Walk and helped in several other areas such as handing out pamphlets at concerts, participated in Cake Wars, took photographs at school functions, sectional game ticket collector, and working the concession stands. Kiah also babysits on a regular basis.

Kiah is currently deciding between Nazareth College and SUNY Potsdam for fall enrollment.  Congratulations Kiah, We know you will be successful in all your endeavors.  Best of luck to you!

 

Victoria Huffman has been named the 2023 Salutatorian with a cumulative grade point average of 98.42.  Victoria has taken advanced classes throughout her high school career and will graduate with 15 college credits through Syracuse University and Jefferson Community College. Victoria will earn a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors and Mastery in Math and Science.  Victoria has maintained honor roll status.  She has received numerous awards and accolades throughout high school which includes NLE Summa Cum Laude and CNYAMT second place as a freshman.  In her sophomore year she received second place for ONNY and CNYAMT as well as NLE Summa Cum Laude. In her junior year, she won ONNY first place. 

Victoria plays a huge role in her school community.  She has remained an active member of Sources of Strength throughout high school.  In previous years, Victoria has been a member of Tri-M, History Club, and was active in Drama Club for three years.  She was a member of Junior Classical League for two, one of which she held the title of Vice President.  Victoria has held the title of secretary, vice president and president of Student Council in the past three years, and is currently her class president.  She began her role as Vice President in the National Honor Society as a junior and is serving as secretary this year.  Victoria’s love of music has kept her active in chorus and jazz rock.  She plays the piano, bass guitar, and violin.  Victoria also performed in Lockdown and was the lead, Angela, in Punk Rock Girls.

Victoria is also a contributor to her community.  She was a teen mentor for Taekwondo and Indian River Lakes Conservancy as a freshman.  She has continued to volunteer at Indian River Lakes Conservancy and also assisted in Warrior Cafe and Martin’s Greenhouse.

This fall Victoria will be attending Middle Tennessee State University majoring in Music Production.  Congratulations Victoria; you have a bright future ahead of you!

 

Tristan Narrow has been named the Vocational Leader with a cumulative grade point average of 93.93.   Tristan has taken advanced classes throughout her high school career and will graduate with 14 college credits through Syracuse University and Jefferson Community College.  She has the potential to earn more college credits through her cosmetology program. Tristan will also finish with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation and Mastery in Science. Tristan has maintained honor roll status for the past three years and has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past two years.  She has received numerous awards and accolades.  These include, Frontier League Champion and Scholar Athlete for the past two years and was named Frontier League All-Star this year.

Tristan is active in school and community activities.  She participated in Irish Dance for three years, and she has been active on our tennis team, holding the position of Captain for the past two years.  Tristan was previously active in band and is currently a member of SADD.  She participated in the Chocolate 5K Run and has assisted with the Blood Drive and Country Cousins Farm Cheese weekend.  Tristan has accomplished so much while working part time at the Clayton Island Tours.

Tristan has applied to and been accepted at Jefferson Community College, where she will receive the Jefferson-Can scholarship, covering her first year of tuition. It is clear that Tristan is hard working and driven.  Continue to make us proud as you face new challenges and adventures!  We wish you all the best!
