Indiana woman accused of possessing loaded handgun in City Hall parking lot

WATERTOWN, NY — The Watertown Police Department released the following news release on Oct. 16:

“On 10/15/2020, on or about 11:30 AM, uniform patrol officers were detailed to the City Hall to assist two New York State Parole officers who with a person with a handgun.

After our officers arrived they learned Hannah E. Cumming, 29, of 8405 Big Bend Road, Martinsville, IN, had driven an acquaintance to see his parole officer in the State Office Building and parked her vehicle in the City Hall parking lot.

She also had her 8-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter in the vehicle with them.

When one of the parole officers was speaking to her, Ms. Cumming admitted she had a handgun in her purse, which was inside the vehicle, police said.

Ms. Cumming reportedly has an Indiana pistol permit; however, it is not valid in New York State.

During a search of her vehicle officers seized a 9 MM Taurus handgun, a 12 round magazine, eight rounds of ammunition, and marihuana.

Ms. Cumming and her two children were brought to our station.

As a result of the investigation, Ms. Cumming was arrested and charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon Second Degree, a C-felony; one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon Third Degree a D-felony; and one count of Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a violation.

She was processed at the station and video arraigned before the Hon. Crystal Smith, who released Ms. Cumming on her own recognizance.
