Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office issues no unnecessary travel advisory effective 1pm Friday

WATERTOWN, NY —  The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for Jefferson County, in effect from 1pm Friday to 1pm Sunday.

Blizzard conditions and snow accumulations of 2 to 4 feet are expected.

The National Weather Service has also issued a High Wind Warning and a Lakeshore Flood Warning, both in effect from 7pm this evening until 1pm Friday. Winds gusting as high as 60mph are expected on Friday night.  A rapid switch from rain to snow with sharply falling temperatures into the teens and single digits will result in a flash freeze on Friday afternoon. Blizzard conditions will develop late Friday afternoon lasting into Sunday morning.

Expect rapidly changing road conditions and reduced visibility. Whiteout conditions are expected and road conditions are likely to become impassible.

Due to these potentially hazardous weather conditions, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a No Unnecessary Travel Advisory for all of Jefferson County, effective 1pm Friday December 23. This advisory will remain in effect for the duration of the Blizzard Warning issued by the NWS. Motorists should adjust travel plans accordingly.
