Job Description:  The Development Authority of the North Country is offering an exciting career opportunity for a dynamic, proven leader to serve as executive director of a regional organization providing services and infrastructure to enhance the economic vitality of Northern New York.  The Authority is a financially self-sufficient, locally controlled, New York state public benefit corporation created by the New York State Legislature in 1985. The executive director is responsible for managing and directing all operational aspects of a multi-faceted organization which includes solid waste management, water /waste water treatment, telecommunications, economic development, community development, housing and loan programs. Candidates should have a clear understanding of North Country challenges and have a vision for solutions going forward. Applicants should have experience in building consensus among partners and coordinating activities on a regional basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing vision and strategic leadership for all aspects of the Authority and establishing goals, objectives strategies and policies to develop regional initiatives that help advance the North Country.  Ideal candidates will possess experience in developing and managing multi-divisional budgets, managing capital projects and associated financing, overseeing infrastructure and promoting community development.  Superior leadership skills, a proven ability to achieve results working with a governing board, experience in supervising a large staff, and strong relationship building and communication skills are required. Experience working with local elected officials is desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a related field; a minimum of 10 years of experience in a leadership role managing professional staff; demonstrated understanding of North Country (defined as Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties) challenges and issues; proven ability to manage significant budgets and capital projects; experience in conceiving and implementing regional projects/partnerships. A master’s degree and experience working with local municipalities are preferred.
