John A. Hermann, 87, Calcium

CALCIUM, NY — John A. Hermann, 87, of 25430 Bush Road, Calcium, passed away June 25, 2019, at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where he was surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 28, 1932, in Redwood, NY, the son of Adolf and Anna Mae (Schwarz) Hermann, he graduated from IHA in 1949.

Following school he worked for the Gerald Green Farm before marrying his high school sweetheart, Clara Ruth LaSalle. The couple married on March 25, 1951 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. They rented a farm in Calcium and Evans Mills for three years before purchasing their own farm located on the Bush Road.

While operating the farm he started driving bus for Frank Williams which later became known as Freeman Bus Corp. and Clarence Henry Coach.  He served under three generations of Freeman’s and during his forty year career was very well respected and never had an accident. Towards the end of his career he became a motor coach operator, retiring on Dec. 31, 2009. His final trip as a driver was with his family to NYC.

John was a life member of the North Side Improvement League, Pine Grove Grange in Calcium, Exempt member and treasurer for the North Pole Fire Department, member of the Watertown Elks Club #496, and member and former treasurer for AARP and Brownville~Glen Park BG’s Senior Citizen Club.

John loved snowplowing the neighbors with his Kubota tractor, and spending time with his family and grand dog Ernie and he rarely missed an episode of Lawrence Welk.  He also very much enjoyed his many trips and the lifelong friendships he made through his job.

Among his survivors are his beloved wife of 68 years, Clara R. Hermann, three sons and their wives, David and Donna Hermann, Cary, NC, Frederick and Nancy Hermann, Theresa, Stephan and Sheri Hermann, Sackets Harbor, seven daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth and David Petrie, Calcium, Catherine and Larry Cupernall, Clayton, Debra and Michael Weaver, Calcium, Diane Kilburn, Calcium, Barbara and Phillip Sweeney, Deer River, Julie and Robert Park, Charlotte, NC, Eleanor and Jeffrey Minnick, Calcium, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, his three brothers and four sisters in law, Mary Hermann, Calcium, Robert and Patricia Herman, Evans Mills, Albert and Betty Hermann, Orwell, Carl and Lois Herman, Watertown, four sisters, Helen Amo, Betty Reff, Watertown, Sister Cecelia Marie SSJ and Sister Mary  Helen SSJ, of  Plattsburgh.

Besides his parents he is predeceased by a sister, Mary Jean Hermann, a brother, William Hermann, a son in law, Butch Kilburn, and two brothers in law, Clarence Amo and Martin Reff.

Calling hours will be held 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 28, at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N. Massey St., Watertown.

The Funeral Mass will be said 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Jonas Tandayu, M.S.C., Pastor, officiating.

The burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
