John R. Greenizen, 61, Clayton

CLAYTON, NY — John R. Greenizen, 61, of Greenizen Road, Clayton, died Friday, Aug. 17, at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at the funeral home.

Born May 2, 1957, in Watertown, the son of Richard and Margaret Cochrane Greenizen, he graduated from 1000 Islands High School.

On Sept. 6, 2014, he married Laura Wood.

John worked at the former Phinney’s Gas Station, was also an Auto Mechanic at Phinney’s Chev-Olds, also for Woodley Dee Mechanicals for a time, and he worked for over 16 years at Empire Northeast Inc. out of Gouverneur. He also was self-employed in the plumbing business.

He enjoyed riding his Harley’s, doing yard work, photography, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving besides his wife Laura, is his son Matthew, and his companion Traci Bickelhaupt, who he considered his daughter-in-law, of Clayton; two step daughters, Katie and Lindsay Dunay; two grandchildren that loved their Papa, Camdyn and Morgan; three sisters, Janice Zemany of Saranac Lake, Kitty (Bruce) Councilman of Florida, and Kristine (Martin) Barrett of Rochester; one brother, Kurt of New Hampshire; a niece, Kathryn Greenizen; and a nephew, Adam Zemany.
