CASTORLAND, NY — Joseph Edward Petrus, 51, of State Route 410, Castorland, formerly of Copenhagen passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 20, 2019, at the home of his sister, Tammy Petrus, under the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
Joe is survived by his parents, Stephen and Dawn Petrus of Copenhagen; brothers, Stephen Petrus, Jr. of Virginia and Charles Petrus of Dexter; his favorite sister, Tammy Petrus of Castorland; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Born Feb. 26, 1968, in Watertown, the son of Stephen and Dawn Gudridge Petrus, he graduated from Copenhagen Central School in the Class of 1986. He served in the U.S. Navy for one year.
He lived in Copenhagen for many years and later worked in Rochester as a roofer and in mills, returning to Castorland in 2015, working for CNY DDSO until his illness.
Joe loved the outdoors, his favorite past times were hunting, fishing, camping, kayaking and going to garage sales, looking for antiques.
Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his niece Ashley Gingerich Mendez and his sister Tammy and her family. He loved being with his cat, Seven.
In keeping with his wishes, Joe has requested no calling hours or funeral service. His wishes were to be cremated and be taken to his favorite hunting spot.
