Judy A. Wells, 71, Carthage

CARTHAGE, NY — Judy A. Wells, 71, died Friday evening, Aug. 17, 2018, at Carthage Area Hospital, where she had been a patient for several days.

Judy was born on Jan. 8, 1947, in West Carthage, a daughter of the late Carl and Stella (Stanton) Wells. Upon graduation from high school, she received a Master’s Degree in Education from State University of New York at Oswego. She was an avid traveler early on in her teaching career, working in a suburb of New York City for a time. She retired as a 6th grade English teacher from Carthage Central School District.

She was very active in her community and involved in many social clubs. She was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association as well as the TOPS Club.  Judy’s true passion was her Schipperke dogs. She was a part of the Schipperke Club of America, and had dogs that placed in local competitions as well as national and international competitions, too. She was also active at the Dexter Senior Center and was an avid reader.

Judy is survived by cousins in the Utica area, as well as many dear friends in the north country as well as Maryland and other states. She touched many lives.

Calling hours will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018, at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at St. James Catholic Church, with Father Donald Robinson officiating. A gathering will immediately follow the Mass at Stefano’s Pizza & Restaurant, 258 State St., Carthage. Burial will be held at a later date in Black River Cemetery.
