WATERTOWN, NY — Julia C. Smith, 99, formerly of Watertown and Syracuse, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, in the nursing home unit at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, where she had resided for over four years.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Union Cemetery, Adams Center, with Fr. Jonas Tandayu, MSC presiding. There are no calling hours or funeral.
Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.
Julia was born April 30, 1919, in Waterown, the daughter of Charles J. and Ethel M. LaLone Danks, she attended Watertown schools.
On Jan. 28, 1941, she married Paul R. Smith in Sackets Harbor with Rev. Isaac W. Stokes officiating, and the marriage was blessed at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church on Oct. 25, 1946.
She worked for the Hotel Syracuse for forty years and retired as the supervisor in the laundry. She attended the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse. She was an animal lover.
Julia is survived by her brother and his wife, Darwin A. “Doc” and Torrie J. Danks, Watertown and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, two brothers, Walter and Charles Danks, a sister, Beulah Paige, and a set of twin brothers.
