Lena Bearup, 95, Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — Lena Bearup, 95, formerly of Emerson Street, and widow of George Bearup, Sr., passed away Thursday, March 21, at the Samaritan Summit Village where she was a resident.

The funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Chris Looby and Rev. Donald Robinson concelebrating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.  Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 25, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home.

She was born June 13, 1923, in Watertown, one of 11 to Peter and Mary Marinelli Dick. She was educated in Watertown schools.

Lena was a typist for the Federal Government in Washington D.C. from 1941-1942.  She later worked for Faichney’s for several years and at Mercy Hospital in the mail room for 17 years until retiring.

Lena married George Bearup, Sr., on April 28, 1946, at St. Anthony’s Church. Mr. Bearup, a retired railroad man for Penn Central, passed away on Oct. 13, 1986.

Lena was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and was an avid Bingo player at the church.  She enjoyed making and sharing baked goods for her family and friends.

Lena is survived by her six children, Barbara (John) Hulbert, Watertown, David (Kathy) Bearup, Rome, George Bearup, Jr., Peter Bearup (Dawn Conklin), Mary (Randy) Yott, all of Watertown and Michelle (Ken) Kavanagh, Clayton; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Thomas, on March 10, 1981, and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Bearup, in February 2018.

Four brothers Ralph, Joseph, John, James Dick; and five sisters Dora Mecomonaco, Nellie Augustine, Lucy Fisher, Santa and Mary Dick and Lesa Boulware, also predeceased her.Post
