Leon R. Hunter, 74, LaFargeville

LAFRAGEVILLE, NY — Leon R. Hunter, 74, of County Route 2, LaFargeville, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, NY.

Born Nov. 28, 1943, in Watertown, NY, a son of Roy and Catherine Beebee Hunter, he graduated in 1961 from Alexandria Bay High School.

Leon married Constance “Connie” Denner on Nov. 28, 1970, at the Plessis United Methodist Church.

As a young boy he worked on the family farm and after high school he became a full time employee and then owner and operator.

Leon was a member of the Jefferson County Milk Co-op, Stone Mills Agricultural Museum and a board member of Brookside Cemetery, Plessis, NY.

He loved farming, being in the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leon was a prankster and loved to make everyone laugh. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, antiques, woodworking, local and national history and cooking shows.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Connie; 5 children, son, Charles Hunter, LaFargeville, NY, daughter, Betsey Blount, Redwood, NY, son, Michael Denner, Plessis, NY, son and daughter-in-law, David and Angie Denner, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Virginia Denner, Plessis, NY; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Nancy Hunter, Sugar Grove, PA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents, a daughter, JoAnne Denner, and a brother, Dennis Hunter, all died previously.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, with Rev. Gene Brown of the Thousand Islands Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Plessis, NY, immediately following services. A Celebration of Leon’s Life will be at the Alexandria Bay Fire Dept., after burial. A dish to pass is requested.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2018 at the funeral home.
