Lewis County: First COVID-19 death

LOWVILLE, NY —  Unfortunately, today we are reporting Lewis County’s first COVID-19 fatality. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends affected by this loss. This is an unfortunate reminder that the precautions we take to fight COVID-19 are in place to protect our community’s most vulnerable citizens. Wearing a mask, avoiding large gatherings, practicing social distancing, and washing your hands will help protect your friends and neighbors, and help save lives.

As of today, there have been a total of 249 cases of COVID-19 in the county. The additional cases are in isolation at home.

There are 97 cases associated with the religious gathering cluster. With each confirmed case of COVID-19, Public Health staff investigate and identify close contacts and exposure risk. Those persons who have been in contact with the positive cases will be placed in quarantine and will be monitored for symptoms and tested.

Recommendations for the use of isolation and quarantine are an important component of a multi-layered strategy to prevent sustained spread of COVID-19 in New York State.
