High school choirs perform on WPBS

WATERTOWN, NY – WPBS hosts its second-annual festive high school concert
for the Holidays. Nine select high school choirs from Watertown, Indian River, South Jefferson, Lowville, South Lewis, Beaver River, Gouverneur, Carthage, and Pulaski perform holiday favorites and seasonal hymns.

The concert, taped in mid-November at WPBS’s studios, celebrates the talent of our surrounding schools select choirs. “This is a very festive way for us to enjoy and share the talent of our surrounding school’s finest performers,” said Tracy DuFlo, Director of Production at WPBS. “Last year, five high schools participated. We expanded it to nine this year, and hope even more schools will participate next year.”

Lowville Academy, under the choral direction of Jan M. Lyndaker, sings acapella renditions of “Silent Night” and “Walking Down to Bethlehem.”

South Jefferson High School, under the choral direction and keyboard accompaniment of Connie Bast, performs a “Winter Medley” of holiday favorites featuring four student soloists, along with a heart-felt arrangement of “The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth.”

Beaver River High School, under the choral direction of Kendra Virkler and keyboard accompaniment of Peter Woolschlager, performs the inspirational “Brightest and Best” and an uplifting rendition of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

Indian River High School, under the choral direction of Shavon Lloyd and dance choreographer Tricia Moore, perform “Pentatonix Medley,” an inspiring arrangement that includes “Hark, The Herald Angels Sing,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Coventry Carol,” and “O Come All Ye Faithful.”

Pulaski High School, under the choral direction and keyboard accompaniment of Aimee Mumford, performs “With Gladness, Cheer, and Song,” “Christmas Time is Here,” and “Our Song of Peace.”

Gouverneur High School, under the choral direction of Renee Powlin, performs “Do You Hear What I Hear” and “Coventry Carol.”

South Lewis High School, under the choral direction and keyboard accompaniment of Cass
Gronowski, performs “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers” and “The Man with the Bag.”

Carthage High School, under the choral direction of Marvin Zehr, performs “Caroling, Caroling” from Alfred Burt Carols, and “Calypso Carol,” featuring six student soloists.

Watertown High School, under the choral direction and keyboard accompaniment of Rebecca Rose, performs “Walking Down the Road to Bethlehem” and “A Holiday Road of Carols.”

High School Holiday Concert: 2019 will air on WPBS on Tuesday, December 10 at 8 pm; Sunday, December 22 at 2 pm, and Wednesday, December 25 at 3:30 pm. The concert can also be seen online at watch.wpbstv.org beginning Tuesday, December 10.
