Lowville man accused of striking woman in head with burning Yankee candle

LOWVILLE, NY —  Shawn L. Exford, 28, Lowville, was charged by Lowville police on Aug. 20 with second-degree assault, a felony.

Police allege Mr. Exford struck Bobbi Jo Gokey in her head with a burning Yankee candle during an altercation on Monday morning, Aug. 19, at 7525 South State St.

The candle was broken during the incident and Ms. Gokey was unconscious for a short period of time, police said. She was transported to Lewis County General Hospital for treatment.

Mr. Exford was arraigned in Lowville Village Court and released on a pre-trial probationary release, police said.
